MIE develops educational experiences that connect music with traditional learning, helping students build creativity, confidence, musicianship, technical fluency, and stronger connections to core academic concepts.

A documented program in action

In 2017, MIE supported an Arts Integration Pilot Program at The Queen City Academy Charter School for Title I students in grades 6–8. The program combined instrumental music, music technology, music theory, mathematics, and project-based learning.

DOCUMENTED IMPLEMENTATION

The program records show that MIE and the school:

• Received program approval and acquired instruments, computers, and supplies

• Recruited instructional staff and held a parent kickoff

• Obtained parent approvals and scheduled participating students

• Began weekly music, mathematics, and technology instruction

• Reviewed student progress and program needs with the instructional team

• Used formative assessments and music-performance tools to guide instruction

EARLY RESULTS

The April 2017 interim report marked the initial musicianship goal as met. The weekly mathematics-through-music instruction goal was also marked met, and the initial arts engagement and enrollment goal was achieved.

Later expansion, end-of-program assessment, and completion targets were recorded as incomplete or not met at the time of reporting. We include that context because meaningful impact reporting should be honest, transparent, and focused on continuous improvement.

WHY THIS MATTERS

This program demonstrates MIE’s ability to bring schools, families, educators, music, technology, and academic learning together. It also provides a foundation for stronger future measurement—tracking participation, skills growth, attendance, student voice, and program completion from beginning to end.
